Partner beta guide
Live captions for multilingual meetings, in the language each person reads best. Spanish, English and French, even mid-sentence.
iPhone (and iPad)
For meetings in a room: phones on the table, everyone reads along.
Install
- Install TestFlight from the App Store. It's Apple's app for beta testing.
- On your iPhone, open the beta invite link below and tap Accept, then Install.
- Open Code Switch and allow microphone access when asked.
TestFlight asking for a redeem code? You don't need one. Close TestFlight, go back to the invite link, and tap it on your iPhone. If it opens a web page, tap View in TestFlight.
Start a meeting
- Tap New session.
- Enter your name, pick the languages spoken in this meeting (at least two) and the language you read in.
- Tap Start. You'll get a 6-character session code and a QR code. Show it to the others.
- Put the phone flat on the table. Captions appear as people speak, translated into your reading language.
Join someone else's meeting
- Tap Join with code, enter the 6-character code, your name and your reading language.
- Every phone that joins also listens, so the room's microphones work together and whoever is closest to the speaker is picked up. Captions are never duplicated.
Optional
- Spoken translations: tap the speaker button to hear translations read aloud. Use earbuds for this.
- Summary: add your email when you join. When the host ends the session, you get a summary in your language.
Android
Installs from Chrome as an app: its own icon, full screen, no store needed.
Install
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the link below in Chrome.
- Tap Install when Chrome offers it, or tap the ⋮ menu, then Add to Home screen → Install.
- Open Code Switch from your home screen and allow the microphone when asked.
The screen stays on during a session. Keep Code Switch open in front: if you switch apps or lock the phone, it stops picking up your voice until you come back. For long meetings, keep the phone plugged in.
Chrome extension for Google Meet
For video calls: captions in a side panel next to your Meet call.
Install
- In Chrome on your computer, open the Chrome Web Store page below and click Add to Chrome.
- Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin Code Switch for Meet so it's one click away.
Caption a Meet call
- Join your call at meet.google.com as usual.
- Click the Code Switch icon. A side panel opens next to the call.
- Start a session (sign in with Google or your email to host), or join one with its code. Allow the microphone so your own voice is captioned too.
- Click Caption this meeting. Everyone else on the call is captioned and translated in the panel. You still hear the meeting normally.
Only the person running the extension needs it. Others in the call can follow the same captions on their own phone or browser with the session code.
Other browsers and devices
Code Switch also runs in any modern browser: Android, Windows, Mac, Safari, Firefox.
Use it in any browser
- Open
api.codeswitch.app/app. - To join: enter your name, choose your reading language, type the session code and tap Join session.
- To host: tap Sign in to host (Google or email link), then start a session and share the code.
- Allow the microphone when the browser asks, so your voice is picked up too.
Put it on your home screen
- Android: see Android above.
- iPhone without the beta app (Safari): open the link, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
- Desktop: bookmark it, or in Chrome/Edge use the menu → Cast, save and share → Create shortcut.
The Meet extension in other browsers
- Microsoft Edge: open the Chrome Web Store link above, click Allow extensions from other stores when Edge asks, then Add to Chrome. It works the same way.
- Brave: install from the same link. It works as in Chrome.
- Safari, Firefox and Arc: the extension isn't available. Use the browser version above on a second screen or your phone, joined to the same session.
Mix and match
One session can include any combination of devices.
- A hybrid meeting: phones on the table in the room, plus the Chrome extension on the laptop that's running the Meet call. Use the same session code everywhere.
- Each person reads in their own language, whatever language is being spoken.
- Long meetings are fine. Sessions are built to run for hours, and the screen stays on while a session is open.
- The beta is free with no limits. Guests never need an account.
If something's off
- No captions on iPhone: check the listening dot moves when you talk. If not, open the Audio sheet and tap Reconnect microphone, or check Settings → Code Switch → Microphone.
- Nothing from the Meet call: make sure you clicked Caption this meeting while the Meet tab was open, then reload the panel and try again.
- Feedback: in TestFlight, take a screenshot in the app to send feedback directly, or email us. We read everything.
